Atlantis Press Becomes a Member of the STM Association

March 1st, 2018

12 years after the company was founded, Atlantis Press has now become a member of the STM Association, the world’s leading global trade association for academic and professional publishers. The STM Association currently has over 170 members in more than 20 countries which each year collectively publish nearly 66% of all journal articles and tens of thousands of monographs and reference works. STM members include learned societies, university presses, subscription and open access publishers, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, new start-ups and established players within the industry.

STM participates in the development of information identification protocols and electronic copyright management systems, organizes seminars, training courses and conferences, and keeps its members fully up to date (via newsletters, the STM website and e-mail) about the issues which will ultimately affect their business. STM’s main aims and objectives are the following:

  • To assist publishers and authors in their activities to disseminate the results of research in the fields of science, technology and medicine;
  • To assist national and international organizations and communications industries in the electronic environment, who are concerned with improving the dissemination, storage and retrieval of scientific, technical and medical information; and
  • To carry out the foregoing work in conjunction with the International Publishers Association (IPA) and with the national publishers associations and such other governmental and professional bodies, international and national, who may be concerned with these tasks.

Zeger Karssen, Owner and Publishing Director of Atlantis Press, says: “The STM membership for Atlantis Press was long overdue, but I am happy that we finally took this step. STM is the leading global trade association for academic and professional publishers and as such we want to be a member of this organization. It is expected that Atlantis Press will grow significantly in coming years and through our membership we aim to enhance our visibility as a global open access publisher and stay fully up to date with, and participate in discussions about, the latest developments in our industry.”
