- Abstract
The tourism sector has been sluggish due to the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters in Sintang. Efforts to recover from the sluggishness need support from the government and universities. Sintang Regency, located in West Kalimantan, has high tourism potential and as a regency that is passed by the main route in West Kalimantan, Sintang has the potential to develop the tourism sector. However, until now Sintang Regency still has many weaknesses in the management and development of its tourism potential. One of the problems is the lack of innovation in developing souvenir products, and weak environmental conservation efforts. The purpose of this activity is to increase knowledge and skills in the conservation of natural dye plants in Sintang. The method used in this study is applied action research with a problem-based learning approach. The activity was carried out in Umin Jaya Village, Dedai District, Sintang Regency, West Kalimantan in September - October 2024. Action research begins with an investigation into community needs. Furthermore, materials and information are delivered to the community through discourse methods, simulations, demonstrations and training. To increase the absorption of materials, modules and material simulations are prepared with the ChatGPT application. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding and awareness. It was seen that 28% of participants who previously had little knowledge about plant organs taken as natural dyes became more knowledgeable about it. In addition, understanding of how to make natural dyes increased by 24%. A similar increase also occurred in understanding the process of dyeing bundle weaving and efforts to preserve natural dye plants. In terms of readiness to maintain sustainability, there was a significant change with an increase in participants who were willing to be proactive by 24%.
