Abstract

Coronary heart disease is a disease that occurs as a manifestation of decreased oxygen supply to the heart muscle as a result of narrowing or blockage of coronary artery blood flow, the clinical manifestations of which depend on the severity of the coronary artery blockage. The study was conducted with the aim of determining what factors are related to the incidence of coronary heart disease at Bahteramas General Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The study was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025. This study employed an analytical observational approach with a case–control design, involving 39 participants in the case group and 66 participants in the control group. The data analysis technique used was the chi-square test with the help of the Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS 25) program. The results indicated a significant relationship between hypertension and the incidence of CHD (p = 0.003 < 0.05), diabetes mellitus and CHD (p = 0.041 < 0.05), as well as cholesterol levels and CHD (p = 0.001 < 0.05). In contrast, no significant relationship was found between gender (p = 0.427 > 0.05) or Body Mass Index (BMI) (p = 0.772 > 0.05) and the incidence of CHD. No significant relationship was observed between gender or Body Mass Index (BMI) and the incidence of CHD, with p-values of 0.427 and 0.772, respectively (both > 0.05).
