As the leading city in the economic development of Guangdong Province, City A has closely follows the pace of digital economic development. This study hypothesizes that the digital economy can drive urban industrial structure upgrading, create employment for urban residents, increase residents’ income, and promote urban residents’ consumption. The paper selects data on the digital economy and residents’ consumption level in City A from 2013 to 2022 and uses a vector autoregression (VAR) model for derivation and analysis. The result demonstrate that both the digital economy development index and disposable income of residents have an impact on residents’ consumption, with the digital economy development index having a more significant impact.
