Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the capture fisheries subsector in supporting the economy of Belitung Regency through the Location Quotient (LQ) approach and contribution to the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP). The research uses a quantitative descriptive method with secondary data for the 2019–2023 period obtained from the Central Statistics Agency and related agencies. The results of the analysis show that the capture fisheries subsector in Belitung Regency has an LQ value that is consistently above one with an average of 1.66, which confirms capture fisheries as a base sector. However, the contribution of this subsector to regional GDP is relatively volatile and tends to decline, with the highest contribution in 2019 at 28% and the lowest in 2022–2023 at 11%, so the average contribution is only 16%. These findings indicate that although capture fisheries have a strategic role as a base sector, their contribution to the regional economy is still not optimal. Therefore, efforts to strengthen productivity, modernize fleets, and sustainable resource management are needed to increase the contribution of this subsector in the future.
