Abstract

For joint photographic experts group (JPEG) steganography, which kinds of JPEG coefficients, i.e., the block discrete cosine transform (BDCT) coefficients that have been divided by the quantization steps and have been rounded, should be selected for data hiding is still an open problem. In this paper, we present a new frequency selection approach for JPEG steganography. Via using our new approach, only those coefficients belonging to some specific alternating current (AC) frequencies, in which the ratio of the number of non-zero JPEG coefficients to the number of all JPEG coefficients is bigger than a predetermined threshold value, are selected for data hiding. Experimental results demonstrate that the frequency selection may be an efficient way to improve the security performance of JPEG steganography.
