Abstract

This study aims to analyze the critical relationships between natural resources, energy availability, and productivity within the Toba Asahan River Basin. Four key propositions are presented: First, natural resources are expected to exert a direct, positive, and significant effect on energy, indicating that the availability and quality of these resources are essential for energy production in the region. Second, it is anticipated that natural resources will contribute directly to productivity, suggesting that effective utilization of these resources can enhance productivity levels. Third, energy is expected to positively influence productivity, highlighting its vital role in driving productive activities. Fourth, this research posits that natural resources positively affect productivity through energy, underscoring their importance in facilitating energy production, which, in turn, supports improvements in productivity. By employing structural equation modeling (SEM), this study seeks to provide empirical evidence for the proposed relationships. The results are expected to significantly enrich the existing literature by enhancing our understanding of the interplay between natural resources, energy, and productivity. Furthermore, the expected results will offer valuable insights for policymakers, business leaders, and community stakeholders, informing strategies aimed at optimizing sustainable resource management practices. Thus, this research aspires to provide practical recommendations for leveraging natural resource and renewable energy management to foster sustainable economic development in the Toba Region.
