- Abstract
Solvent extraction of zinc(II) using Triphenylarsine oxide and tributylamine as extractants in xylene under acidic conditions was studied. The work evaluates the impact of various thermodynamic parameters, including pH, temperature, contact time, and equilibrium behaviour, on the extraction efficiency. It was found that the combined use of Triphenylarsine oxide and Tributylamine, along with xylene, with perchloric, hydrochloric, sulphuric, and nitric acid solutions significantly improves extraction performance compared to either extractant alone. Experimental results show up to 98% Zn (II) recovery under optimised conditions, with stoichiometry and thermodynamic parameters confirming a favourable, entropy-driven extraction mechanism.
