Abstract

This research paper aims to bridge the gaps in rural teacher training programme in India, with a focus on enhancing entrepreneurship and skill development. Current frameworks, including DIKSHA and NISHTHA, often fail to meet the diverse needs of rural educators due to centralized content and limited local adaptation. Using an ethnographic approach, fieldwork was conducted in two under resourced districts of Madhya Pradesh Deori and Barkhanda to capture ground level realities, pedagogical challenges and opportunity for reform. Data were collected through moderated and unmoderated interviews, as well as focus group discussions with in-service government teachers, school principals and recent graduates (B.A, B.S, B.COM). The Findings reveal major gaps such as lack of structured curriculum, limited vocational training, inadequate digital literacy, gender specific mobility constraints, and misalignment with NEP 2020 objectives. Based on these insights, a five module hybrid training model is proposed covering science, arts and language integration, commerce and life skills, vocational training, agriculture and sustainable education. This model also encourages entrepreneurship by providing opportunities to recent graduates who can serve as mentors to deliver subject specific pedagogy. This scalable, context sensitive framework directly addresses gaps in recruitment and training while promoting entrepreneurship at the grassroots level. The study contributes a practical, policy-aligned model that can be adapted across rural India.
