Abstract

This study explores the effect of pedagogical leadership on academic staff performance within a public university in Zimbabwe. It examines how academic leaders, through their deliberate prioritization of effective teaching and the provision of needed pedagogical support, cultivate a culture of continuous improvement that significantly impacts employee performance across all departments. The research is anchored in an integrated framework that combines the Pedagogical Leadership Model (PLM) with Transformational Leadership Theory (TLT). A structured Leadership Survey Instrument (LSI) was administered to 600 academic leaders. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive correlation between pedagogical leadership practices and key employee performance outcomes, including enhanced academic achievement and increased staff satisfaction. These findings align with Zimbabwe's national development agenda articulated in Vision 2030 and the global benchmarks for educational quality outlined in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4. The paper concludes with recommendations for higher education institutions (HEIs) to invest strategically in developing instructional leadership competencies that promote a transformative educational culture responsive to national and global demands.
