Abstract

Serious pollution of waste gas, waste water and waste residue are generated by calcium carbide-based polyvinyl chloride (PVC) production in China, especially the mercury pollution on account of using a mass of mercury chloride catalyst (HgCl2). This study introduced main methods and techniques which were grouped into fire metallurgy and hydrometallurgy respectively for recycling mercury from waste mercury chloride catalyst of PVC production. The different process conditions and recovery effect of mercury of these methods were illustrated in this paper.
