Abstract

This study examined the perceptions of the accounting and the accountancy profession. A survey of university students was performed. The results indicated that both the Mainland Chinese and Macau students perceive accounting and accountants with a negative image of dull and boring. The results also indicated accounting as precise, definite and the profession is of a high social status. The implications of the results were discussed.
