Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (K3) in the mining industry has a crucial role in ensuring safe and efficient operations. One safety indicator that is often used is the Accident Frequency Rate (AFR), which shows the number of work accidents in a certain period compared to the total hours worked by employees. This research aims to reduce the Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) at PT. Antareja Mahada Makmur site XXX from 4.52 YTD 2023 to < 2.0 in 2024. This research uses an observational approach and accident data analysis to identify work safety problems, factors that cause accidents, and the effectiveness of the SMART Safety (Safety Management Attitude Reinforcement Techniques) method in reducing AFR. Implementation of the SMART Safety (Safety Management Attitude Reinforcement Techniques) method at PT. Antareja Mahada Makmur site XXX has had a positive impact in reducing AFR and building a better safety culture in the work environment. Programs such as Safety Tour and Review (STAR), 5M Program, Safety Provisions (BEKAL K3), and SIMK3L have increased management involvement and worker compliance with safety procedures. The positive impact of this program can be seen from the downward trend in AFR in early 2024, indicating that the safety strategies implemented are increasingly effective in preventing work incidents and increasing awareness of safety in all operational lines. This program not only reduces the AFR number, but also contributes to minimal repair costs due to accidents and improves the company’s image as a safe and professional work environment.
