Abstract

Risk factors for preterm birth can be identified through the mother’s sociodemographic characteristics which can help identify the early risk of preterm labor to early intervention can be carried out so that preterm labor can be prevented. Objective of this study is to find out whether a history of preterm birth and fluor albus are the most influential risk factors for preterm pregnancy in hospitals throughout Makassar City. The method is observational analysis design on 257 post-term and preterm mothers in 17 hospitals using the Health Card for Preterm Pregnant Women (KASIHKU) instrument followed by compare means independent samples T-test analysis. Of the 257 mothers there were 27 (10.5%) mothers who had a history of preterm and 101 mothers (39.3%) who experienced fluor albus during their pregnancy, so it was proven that the most influential risk factor in detecting preterm was the mother. Who had a history of preterm birth (CI95%: 0.084–0.233, p < 0.000), which means that mothers with a previous history of preterm labor have a 4.198 times greater chance of experiencing preterm labor than mothers without a history and mothers who experienced fluor albus during pregnancy (CI95%: 0.320–0.541, p < 0.000), which means that mothers who experience vaginal discharge, have a risk of preterm labor 7.677 times compared to mothers who do not experience vaginal discharge. In conclusion, a history of preterm labor and fluor albus are the most influential risk factors in detecting preterm labor, this can be used as a basis for efforts to prevent preterm labor disorders by reducing the risk factors.
