Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito and caused by the dengue virus. Clinical manifestations of DHF typically include epistaxis, gingival and oral bleeding, persistent abdominal pain, and erythematous skin bruising. The Aedes aegypti mosquito is characterized by its rapid reproductive cycle, contributing to approximately 390 million dengue infections globally each year. This study aims to determine the incidence of DHF in Konawe Islands Regency. The research design used was a case series. The population in this study were all DHF incidents recorded at the Lansilowo Health Center, the sample in this study was 52 people with the criteria of being diagnosed positive for DHF, having a clear address, being reachable, and being able to provide good information. This study employed purposive sampling as its sampling technique, while data were collected using a questionnaire as the research instrument. Data analysis used univariate analysis which aims to determine the distribution and frequency of DHF incidents based on the existence of age groups, gender, level of knowledge, and behavior. The results showed that the incidence of DHF was highest among individuals aged ≥ 15 years (63.47%), followed by males (53.85%). In addition, a higher incidence was observed among those with low levels of knowledge about DHF (88.6%) and among individuals demonstrating poor preventive behaviors against DHF (62.5%). In conclusion, DHF incidents tend to occur in patients who are ≥ 15 years old, male, have a low level of knowledge regarding DHF, and have poor DHF prevention behavior.
