Abstract

Cognitivist school holds that learning is a mental process including such aspects as how people build up and draw upon their memories and the ways in which they become involved in the process of learning. The paper attempts to probe into the role of etymology in teaching and learning the English vocabulary from the cognitive perspective, especially meaningful learning theory.
