Abstract

The Gross Ecosystem Economic Product (GEEP) accounting system is crucial for implementing the “Two Mountains” theory and advancing ecological civilization. This study develops a GEEP accounting framework that integrates agricultural ecosystem values for the Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration and calculates its GEEP from 2015 to 2020. A coupling coordination degree model is then used to assess the GEEP-economic development relationship. Results show: (1) In 2020, the Pearl River Delta’s GEEP reached 10,234.8 billion yuan, a 32.17% increase from 2015, with agricultural ecosystems contributing significantly to regulatory services. (2) From 2015 to 2020, comprehensive economic indices across cities ranged from 0.076 to 0.187, while GEEP indices varied between -0.228 and 0.150, indicating a complex interplay between economic growth and ecological sustainability. (3) The overall coupling coordination degree showed an upward trend, with “basic coordination” as the dominant type, often characterized by “basic coordination—ecological lag.” This research provides scientific insights for establishing a green, differentiated evaluation system and promoting the value realization of agricultural ecosystem products.
