Abstract

This analytical article examines a conceptual and theoretical framework for enhancing ethical and transformative English Language Teaching (ELT) that promotes character-driven deep learning in teacher education. Amidst swift digital transformation and increasing societal intricacy, the function of English educators has evolved beyond mere language education to encompass the development of students’ ethical, intellectual, and civic competencies. This study contends that the future of English Language Teaching (ELT) should be rooted in ethical pedagogy, wherein language serves as a vehicle for identity development, moral reasoning, and social involvement. The framework comprises six interconnected constructs: ethical and transformative pedagogy, character education, profound learning, knowledge leadership, digital proficiency, and ELT teacher training. The paper promotes a pedagogy in English schools that emphasizes human values, critical thinking, and relational trust, while also incorporating digital tools in a responsible and thoughtful manner. It underscores the obligation of teacher educators to spearhead this shift by integrating ethical thought and character development into their curriculum and exemplifying these behaviors. These analytical insights enhance ongoing research intended to guide the development of a character-embedded, digitally adaptive, and ethically responsive teacher education model. The suggested paradigm provides prompt guidance for reconceptualizing English Language Teaching as both a linguistic pursuit and a transformational educational initiative.
