Abstract

A few years ago, when experts first started studying the impact of social media on young people, much of the concern was about access to pornography and the possibility of online strangers reaching out to children. While these are still important issues to address, it now appears that there are more and more hidden aspects of the online world that can affect a child's mental health. Young people face challenges in all aspects of life, and social media may only be part of the complex. Focusing only on online content research lacks attention to the characteristics of children. Through literature analysis, this paper focuses on three aspects of violent games, suicidal tendencies, and decreased self-confidence to discuss the impact of new media on children's psychological harm. At the same time, feasible solutions are proposed from the perspective of family, school and society.
