Abstract

The use of social contact to mitigate prejudice and discrimination was studied by many psychologists since Allport proposed the contact hypothesis. Discrimination and prejudice are a very common phenomena that confront groups of people who may come from different races, nationalities, and beliefs. Nonetheless, it is important to take it seriously, as the damage caused by discrimination and prejudice is endless. This paper examines the relationship between social contact and prejudice and discrimination through literature analysis and theory, concluding that social contact mitigates prejudice and discrimination, even if only in behavioral terms.
