Abstract

Encouraged by the rejuvenation of Indian perspectives in academia and research, a myriad of theories and research suggest the immense potential of Indian Knowledge Systems to aid in diverse fields including psychology and Medical healthcare. The present study attempts to unfold the contribution of psychological concepts related to IKS in managing lifestyle diseases and unlocking the path towards holistic well-being. The study aims to understand the interplay of positive psychological concepts relating to IKS in Diabetes Care. The empirical study explored the impact of Mindfulness, Spirituality and Gratitude upon Diabetes Distress using statistical techniques of correlation and regression analysis. The sample consists of 100 Type 2 Diabetic patients aged 25-60 years, selected through a purposive sampling technique. The results yielded significant correlation among the study variables and significant prediction of diabetes distress by Mindfulness, Spirituality and Gratitude. Favourable results pave the way to reduce diabetes distress by the development of interventions related to these variables. Implications are presented highlighting the role of Mindfulness, Spirituality and Gratitude in the development of theories and interventions in the field of psychology and healthcare including management of diabetes, reducing distress and promoting holistic well-being. The study suggests a new indigenous version of logotherapy. Suggestions for future research and developments based upon this research are discussed. The study offers an interface for collaboration of researchers with practitioners to develop and implement practical strategies in healthcare.
