Abstract

The United Nations has established 17 Sustainable Development Goals aimed at providing solutions and justice across social, ecological, and governance issues. This paper will explore the Indian Knowledge System and its application in the Sustainable Development Goals by analysing principles such as Dharma, Sarvodaya, Ahimsa, Gram Swaraj, and Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. These principles of the Indian Knowledge System are profoundly connected to the Sustainable Development Goals and present insights into how Indian philosophy complements and can be applied to modern development models in areas including environmental protection, social justice, inclusive governance, and global partnerships. This study will employ the qualitative methodology for an in-depth examination of these principles. This study will investigate how these principles, while being deeply embedded in ancient philosophical traditions, present an adaptable and context-driven framework that can address the emerging global challenges. The analysis of these principles underlines that by integrating the Indian Knowledge System into national and global development goals, a culturally grounded and ethically robust development can be achieved. This study concludes that the union of the principles of the Indian Knowledge System with the Sustainable Development Goals may reinforce global sustainability efforts by embedding ethics, community participation, and non-violence into the contemporary world order.
