- Abstract
Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte has become a highly controversial classic in classical music drama for its pungent deconstruction of love and human nature. This paper aims to deeply analyze the portrayal and significance of the character Ferrando in Così fan tutte. Based on Mozart’s artistic techniques in opera creation during the Classical period, this study explores the characteristics of Ferrando’s arias in the opera from two dimensions: musical composition and dramatic plot—such as how melody, rhythm, harmony, etc., depict his personality traits. Meanwhile, it analyzes Ferrando’s behavioral motivations and psychological changes in complex emotional relationships and plot development, discussing the character’s naive and contradictory traits revealed in the trials of love. The study of Ferrando’s characterization not only helps to better understand the artistic charm of Mozart’s operas but also excavates the enlightenment of the work’s character portrayal for later opera creation, providing a new perspective for the theoretical research on opera characterization.
