- Abstract
Emotional experience of language learners has become a hot research topic in recent years, and emotions like foreign language enjoyment (FLE) and foreign language boredom (FLB) have been widely discussed. Yet, the interrelation between FLE, FLB and foreign language engagement needs further exploration. Since educational environments may influence learners’ emotional states, this study investigates the current emotional state of non-English major graduate students and the contribution of their FLE and FLB to FL engagement in the context of English academic writing course. The findings indicate: 1. FLB of graduate students is low compared to their FLE and FL engagement, both of which are high. 2. There is a negative correlation between FLB and FLE, FLB and FL engagement, while there is a strong positive correlation between FLE and FL engagement. 3. Both FLB and FLE can predict FL engagement, but FLE is a strong positive predictor of FL engagement.
