- Abstract
This research systematically explores the impact of technological media on the inheritance and innovation of traditional performing arts, starting with the evolution of technological media. From the regional dissemination of live performances, to recording technology’s ability to transcend time and space, to radio’s expansion of auditory perception, to film’s visual transformation, to the construction of home viewing scenarios for television, to the fragmented and interactive dissemination of short videos and live broadcasts, and to the immersive experiences enabled by VR, this study examines the shifts in dissemination patterns, viewing habits, performance essences, and aesthetic cores of traditional performing arts across different technological media. Using case studies as examples, this study reveals the role of technology in traditional arts, both as a “transmitter” (e.g., preserving classic vocal styles in recordings, stage settings in VR), and as an “innovator” (e.g., short videos promoting cross-border dissemination, and films reshaping theatrical aesthetics). It also identifies challenges posed by technology, such as the weakening of authenticity and excessive entertainment. This research aims to provide theoretical insights for achieving a balance between technological empowerment and the core of tradition, and to promote the sustainable development of traditional performing arts.
