- Abstract
Premiering at the 7th Wuzhen Theatre Festival, the one-act play Jitu Tonglong (The Chicken and Rabbit Cage), written and performed by Liu Tianqi, was awarded the Best Drama prize in the Young Theatre Artists Competition. Staged with an unadorned and sincere artistic style, the play unfolds a story of confusion and choice between a father and his daughter. While the work overall demonstrates the exploratory drive and reflective spirit characteristic of modern theatre, it remains untethered to specific styles or forms, highlighting instead the playwright’s distinct and potent personal sensibility. As a notable phenomenon in contemporary theatre, Liu Tianqi’s work and unique style warrant further examination.
