- Abstract
This paper analyses the management of the research process in terms of vertical and horizontal leadership. Specific features of research activity are discussed from the point of view of the project management and leadership theory. Group dynamics of research team in different stages are adapted to these features. Our results and implications allow us to identify the most significant criteria for assessing potential horizontal leaders. Different methods of evaluation of team members for their participation in the nomination are considered. The two-side process of identification horizontal leaders is revised due to specific of research activities. We propose pyramid model of research activity management process allowing to cover simultaneously both organisational relationship and research process interactions. Moreover, we discuss the managerial and theoretical implications stemming from this research project.
