Abstract

This article is a comparative study of two Chinese governments’ reactions towards Hollywood in the 1930s and 1990s. Through a comparison of the two states’ censorship and economics polices, this article reveals that the film policies on Hollywood in the 1990s can be seen as a continuity if not consolidation, of those in the 1930s. This article concludes that China in the 1930s and 1990s were in the process of transition and Hollywood played a significant role in these transition periods.
