Abstract

Formulaic languages are prefabricated multi-word patterns, continuous or discontinuous, which are stored and retrieved whole from memory at the time of use. Both EFL and native speakers’ natural language makes considerable use of formulaic language. The formulaic languages, which was noticed 50 years ago, are featured with high frequency, structural cohesion, semantic unity, and variation in from. The past 20 years has witnessed remarkable achievements made in formulaic language-related research home and broad. Based on related studies, this paper aims to explore how English is acquired and bettered with the help of formulaic language from the perspective of SLA, which may be of implication for English teaching and learning.
