- Abstract
Increasing dependency and demand on digital healthcare systems, needs for secure, efficient, and intelligent management of patient data traffic have become critical. This research explores the study of patient related network traffic in a Software-Defined Networking (SDN) environment. Some promising paradigms of SDN encompass the ability to manage the network centrally with greater flexibility and decoupling of the control plane from the data plane accompanied by increased level of security. SDN’s centralized architecture and programmability provide enhanced visibility and control over data flows. It makes highly suitable for handling sensitive healthcare data such as electronic health records (EHRs), real-time monitoring outputs, and medical imaging. The main objective of the research is to make sure that patient’s confidential data is transmitted safely and reliably in the hospital, clinic, telemedicine platform, and health information system environment. The scope includes monitoring the flows of patient’s data to get optimized network performance by ensuring regulatory compliance. This also includes to facilitates secure interoperability between healthcare systems along with enabled real-time clinical decision-making through traffic analytics. Key findings indicate that SDN-based traffic analysis significantly improves anomaly detection, reduces the risk of data breaches, and enhances the overall reliability, security, and efficiency of healthcare networks.
