Proceedings of the 9th International Seminar on Tropical Animal Production (ISTAP 2021)
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to convey my sincere gratitude for your contributions and participation in The 9th International Seminar on Tropical Animal Production (ISTAP 2021), which took place virtually in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, on September 21-22, 2021, hosted by the Faculty of Animal Science, UGM.
Animal production is an essential sector for human needs. Continuous innovation and research inquiry are required to stay up with the challenges that we confront in the animal production system. The goal of the 9th International Seminar on Tropical Animal Production (ISTAP 2021) was to provide a scientific forum for sharing perspectives and insights of the latest development tropical livestock production systems, with the ultimate goal of achieving sustainable tropical resource management in increasing livestock production in the tropics.
The contribution of this seminar to the development of national food security is truly significant by introducing new scientific knowledge and equipment needed in Indonesia to maintain a safe and secure environment and to look at more effective ways to address and anticipate future challenges. We can see great enthusiasm of all participants to present their latest research findings, and to share valuable knowledge.
We have invited some significant eminent speakers for the plenary session and presentations pertinent to theme to share their valuable knowledge during these two days of the virtual conference, including Prof. Barbara Metzler-Zebeli (Veterinary Medicine, University of Vienna, Austria), Prof. Dr. Komlósi István DSc Dr. h.c. (University of Debrecen, Hungary), Prof. Dr. Irwandi Jaswir (International Islamic University Malaysia, Malaysia), Prof. Dr.Ir. S.J. (Simon) Oosting (Wageningen University, Netherlands), and Prof. Dr. Ali Agus (Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia). This conference drew 106 attendees from the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria, Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia, with a total of 91 presentation, facilitated by a secure online meeting platform. Following the virtual conference, a call for complete papers was issued for consideration for publishing in the conference proceedings. Manuscripts were received, processed, and reviewed in accordance with ISTAP and ATLANTIS PRESS policies. For the result, 71 manuscript were selected and submitted to this proceeding.
This conference addressed the global network on sustainable animal production in the development of knowledge, technologies, and technical-scientific information to increase the sustainability of the livestock chain, particularly in the face of the significant global transformation caused by climate change. Several issues were addressed, such as the environment's impact on livestock production systems and its action plan to tackle it, precision livestock farming practices, breeding, reproduction, feeding, and management strategies in challenging environments, and more.
As the general chair of this conference, I am aware that the conference's success is ultimately dependent on the many people who have collaborated with us. We would like to thank the Program Chairs, the Scientific Committee, and the Organizing Committee, also to our honorary guests and plenary speakers for their contributions to this event. The field of tropical agriculture's long-term viability is an important one, and I am hopeful that this proceeding book can help fill that gap in understanding.
