Abstract

One of the threats that is rarely studied but has a major impact on safety is the presence of wild boars on the airside. This study aims to analyze the constraints of wild boar pest control and formulate risk mitigation strategies that are in accordance with aviation safety standards. The study was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach, combining field observation methods, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using a gap analysis approach to identify gaps between actual conditions and ideal conditions based on regulations, and bowtie analysis to visually map the relationship between hazards, top events, threats, consequences, and barriers. The results of the study indicate that wild boar disturbances are triggered by damaged perimeter fences, unmanaged tall vegetation, and the absence of an early warning system. Current handling is still reactive, through manual patrols and deterrence, without detection tools or integrated handling protocols. The results of the bowtie analysis provide an overview of the main threats that have not been anticipated through adequate preventive barriers and recovery barriers. In addition, escalation factors such as CCTV damage and minimal cross-unit coordination increase the potential for runway incursions that lead to flight accidents. This study recommends that the approach to controlling wild boar pests shift from an emergency response system to an integrated proactive control system. Strengthening infrastructure such as fence repair, habitat management, and the use of surveillance technology and early warning systems are urgent needs to prevent potential bigger accidents in the future.
