Abstract

This article aims to uncover the factors that cause a person to commit gender-based violence and child exploitation on social media and how strategies to overcome them using iceberg analysis and psycho-religious approaches. This article uses iceberg analysis to reveal patterns and trends, system structures and mental models that cause gender-based violence on social media to become rampant. This article uses qualitative data collection through interviews. This article finds that first, the perpetrator of violence uses his power to control or oppress the victim, to maintain or strengthen the gender hierarchy. Second, the factors that cause someone to commit gender-based violence on social media from an iceberg perspective include the normalization of gender-based violence in the real and digital world, the number of perpetrators of gender-based violence on social media who do not get legal consequences or social sanctions. Structurally-systemically, gender-based violence is caused by the lack of literacy related to KGBO to the younger generation, the internalization of religious values is not optimal, patriakhi culture, and the slow handling of victims of online gender-based violence in the realm of legal assistance. From the mental aspect of the model, the perpetrators want to show strength and dominate the victim to strengthen the gender hierarchy. Third, a holistic and comprehensive strategy is needed in preventing and handling KBGO and child exploitation, with the full involvement of all ecosystems mentioned in Brofenbrenner's Bioecology theory in accordance with the capacity and role of each party. Strategies to prevent and deal with KGBO can be carried out using a psycho-religious approach through parenting patterns in the family to prevent and deal with the problem of gender-based violence. By combining psychological techniques with spiritual or religious principles, it can offer a more holistic and profound solution to build self-awareness to avoid the desire to become a perpetrator of violence, reduce the impact of gender-based violence on social media for victims and support the recovery and well-being of individuals both victims and perpetrators.
