Abstract

Electronic waste (e-waste) is one of the fastest-growing types of waste today because of the rapid advancement of technology. Public engagement on social media has emerged as a potential factor to improve e-waste management systems, particularly in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the behavioral characteristics of Indonesian society in handling electronic waste by analyzing topics generated through topic modeling. This research uses BERTopic for topic modeling. The study focuses on Instagram by collecting user comments related to e-waste. The dataset includes mostly comments written in the Indonesian language. The comment data was processed using the Python programming language in a Jupyter Notebook environment. The analysis results in 6 topics, covering various themes such as information searching about the location of e-waste drop boxes, general discourse about e-waste management system, and expectations and hope for expanding initiatives evenly across all cities in Indonesia. reflecting diverse user behaviors toward e-waste. Additionally, coherence scores were obtained, yielding the following value 0.495. This research is expected to serve as an initial reference for relevant stakeholders in formulating better policies and improving the current regulatory framework, ultimately contributing to a more efficient and publicly satisfying e-waste management system in Indonesia.
