- Abstract
This paper presents a pragmatic approach to define the model confidence of the geological models, as implemented in Iron Ore at BHP, which is based on defining the minimum modelling requirements for the geological models to prove suitable for slope stability.
The design acceptance criteria (DAC) defined and implemented for slope design of open pits in Iron Ore utilizes two entries in a table schema, which permits to account for categorical definitions of both the model confidence level and the consequence of slope failure. This paper describes the link between the DAC and geological model confidence is currently implemented for routine usage during study phases, at pre-feasibility and feasibility level.
