We feel honored to welcome you all, our valued presenters and participants, to the 2022 1st International Conference on ACADEMIA-BASED TOURISM REVIVAL (ABTR 2022) in the Faculty of Humanities, Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto, Central Java, Indonesia.

This theme subsumes the other related and relevant areas of education, humanities, and other social sciences. The prime aim of this conference is to amalgamate and share brilliant ideas and practical experiences of academics, scientists, social engineers, hospitality (and related domains) researchers, practitioners and thinkers to and discuss the existing challenges and the solutions for the revival of the global and local tourism sectors.

By and large, the underpinning reason for taking the theme into account is due to the fact that our country as well as other countries in most part of the globe have undergone a disastrous pandemic of COVID-19 which has severe and serious impacts on the various aspects of economy and other areas. One of which, having the most devastating effect, is tourism sector. Having suffered from the catastrophic pandemic, we initiate the fightback acts for its recovery. We all want to open and restart a new chapter of life, a joyful and God-blessed one. Academically, we all wish to be a part of the mission: reinventing and reviving the former lucrative tourism business environment.

ABTR 2022 gives proofs, not promises, to be both mind-provoking, knowledgeladen, information-rich, and experience-indulging with an amazing lineup of eminent keynote and invited speakers from many parts of the globe. The conference will offer and spoil the presenters and participants with a plethora of sessions to engage with and surely will have a passion to test and taste the cordial yet stimulating academic milieu.

Through such well-thought theme, we proudly present you with eminent speakers in their respective fields. They include Mr. Sulaiman Shehdek (Visit Indonesia Tourism Office VITO, Singapore), Mr. I Ketut Arka, S.S., M.A.P. (Association of Indonesian Tour Guide of Bali, Indonesia), Prof. Yongchang Chen, Ph.D (Hebei University, China), Lyndell Dean Backues, Ph.D. (Eastern University, USA), Dr. Pancahrle Thongpanich (School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand), Mr. Dian Ediono (Vice President of International Region, Garuda Indonesia), Prof. Hirose, Eishi (Researcher of Language and Culture, Japan), and Dr. Lynda Susana Widya A. F., S.S., M.Hum. (Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Indonesia).

We also would like to express our great gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Indonesia, Dr. H. Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.B.B.A., M.B.A. for his willingness to be with us to give his insightful remarks in the conference. His words are inspiring and highly meaningful. We can never thank you enough.

Our great thanks also go to our co-hosts (UniversitasMahasaraswati Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia; School of Liberal Arts, Mae Fah Luang University, Thailand; and Nippon Academy Japan). This cooperation has a great contribution to the success of the conference. We hope to carry on with this invaluable collaboration in the years to come. We passionately believe that “together we are stronger, together we are better.”

We are pleased to inform you that there are 37 papers written by 65 presenters coming from various institutions which include Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Negeri Surabaya, Universitas Sumatra Utara, Pakuan University, IKIP Siliwangi, Universitas Islam Sultan Agung, Universitas Islam Ogan Komering Ilir Kayuagung, BRIN/The National Research and Innovation Agency, Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar (UNMAS), and Universitas Jenderal Soedirman. Furthermore, there are 73 participants (non-presenters) representing 30 institutions.

Hence, in this moment, kindly allow us to express our thanks and appreciation, first and foremost, to Rector of Jenderal Soedirman University, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, and to all parties who have directly and indirectly participated in the conference.

The agenda entails invited, plenary, and parallel sessions with lively presentations and discussions with noted speakers incorporating a variety of sub-themes or topics in humanities, education, and other social sciences featuring local creativity and innovation both in tourism and relevant beyond. Insomuch as the conference is held online, the presenters and participants can optimize their opportunities to virtually interact with one another.We expect your very experience withABTR2022 is a valuable and long-standing one. Your support and participation in the conference will be of high meaningfulness in the years to come.

We mean to extend our great thanks and appreciation to the organization staff, the program steering and organizing committees, and internal and external reviewers. They have endeavored in reviewing papers and suggesting constructive comments and suggestions for the authors to enhance the quality of their papers. We also would like to thank the authors for contributing their research-based papers to the conference and to the participants who have actively engaged during the conference.
