Humanities Research Group (KKIK) FSRD Institut Teknologi Bandung in collaboration with Badan Pembinaan Ideologi Pancasila (BPIP) for the first time held the Symposium on State Ideology (SOSI) and the International Conference on Digital Humanities (CODH-22) on a hybrid basis on November 3–5, 2022, with the theme The Challenges, Opportunities, and Innovations in the Era of Society 5.0.

This event focused on bringing together academician, scientists, and researchers to share their research experiences on recent advancements in digital humanities. It also provided a premier interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns as well as practical challenges on digital humanities. With contributions from digital humanities researchers and scientists, this event will provide a framework for digital humanities development and participate in the current digital humanities conversation by bringing forward emerging voices that offer new options for cooperation, by demonstrating how the digital humanities can become a tool for activism, and by illustrating the role digital humanities to society.

The CODH and SOSI will produce academic publication in the form of proceedings or journals as scientific references that explain the challenges, opportunities, and innovations needed in order to build a smart society 5.0 life in Indonesia and internationally by using the perspective of the universal values of state ideology and policy paper that will be recommended by BPIP to the President of the Republic of Indonesia as a draft policy direction to build a smart society 5.0 in Indonesia based on Pancasila. The conference included 4 (four) plenary talks by distinguished speakers from academia and practitioners. There were 20 selected papers presented by authors of the accepted papers which were distributed in 4 (four) parallel sessions covering various fields of research. The papers were accepted based on the expert comments provided by the reviewers. The reviewers from Jurnal Sosioteknologi assisted in the success of the conference by reviewing papers within the stipulated time.

H Joko Widodo (represented by the Minister of Law and Human Rights Prof. Yasonna Hamonangan Laoly, SH, M.Sc., Ph.D., for opening the event and The Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Mr Nadiem Makarim, B.A., M.B.A. for delivering his keynote speech. We’d like to thank the authors, reviewers, and members of the technical program committee and the management of Institut Teknologi Bandung, The Rector, The Secretary, and The Dean of FSRD, for the success of CODH-22. We are also thankful to BPIP team for the constant support which has led to the smooth conduction of the event.
