- Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) has been widely used, including in higher education learning. A survey on college students’ views on AI tools in academic learning was conducted at Xiamen Medical College, with 505 valid responses. It showed 94.7% of students had used AI, mostly several times a week. Female students were more concerned about over-reliance and privacy risks than males. One-way ANOVA analysis indicated that first-year students, making up 52.1% of respondents, wanted more school regulation of AI use, unlike fourth and fifth-year students focused on practical education. “Below Average” grades of students desired more AI in courses, while “Poor” grades of students were less interested. Daily AI users were more satisfied and dependent but also more aware of risks, while low-frequency users were more negative. Students acknowledged AI’s benefits like instant feedback but worried about accuracy, over-reliance, and data security. Most students hadn’t taken AI courses but were eager to learn. Thus, educational institutions must guide AI use carefully to promote learning efficiency while avoiding excessive dependence and preserving creativity.
