Abstract

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is essential for individuals with HIV/AIDS to suppress viral load, prevent progression to AIDS, and reduce the risk of opportunistic infections and associated complications. While ART does not eradicate the virus, it effectively inhibits HIV replication. Lifelong adherence to prescribed ART regimens is crucial for optimal efficacy and to minimize the development of drug resistance. This study investigates factors influencing ART adherence among HIV/AIDS patients at Kendari City Regional General Hospital. This study utilized a quantitative, descriptive approach to investigate HIV/AIDS patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) at Kendari City Regional General Hospital through 2020. From a total population of 273 eligible patients, a sample was drawn using proportional random sampling, specifically targeting those presenting for ART at Kendari City Regional General Hospital. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between patient awareness and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) at Kendari City Regional Hospital. Family support also emerged as a significant factor influencing ART adherence, whereas no significant association was found between ART side effects and adherence. Multiple regression analysis identified patient awareness as the most influential predictor of ART adherence (β = 0.684).
