Abstract

Medical waste poses a serious threat to the health and safety of hospital workers, making the effective implementation of occupational health and safety (OHS) crucial to minimizing these risks. This study aims to analyze OHS risks among medical waste management officers at Bahteramas Hospital. The research design used was qualitative with research instruments in the form of interview guidelines, observation checklists, and documentation. To identify potential hazards using Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) while for risk analysis using a semi-quantitative approach with the W. T. Fine formula from AS/NZS 4360: 2004 risk management. The findings revealed that medical waste originated from all medical service units as well as supporting installations. The identified hazards included biological, physical, chemical, ergonomic, psychological, and mechanical risks. Risk Level Analysis: Biological and physical hazards have a risk value of 300 (priority 1) in most stages, while psychological hazards tend to have a lower risk. Conclusion: Risk control efforts should be made to identify, reduce, and manage potential risks of medical waste management.
