Abstract

This article investigates the category of modality (necessity, chance and possibility) in history of philosophy, biology and logic. We study the first in the history of philosophy understanding of the types of modality of the ancient Greek thinker Democritus; identify the main use of the categories studied in modern natural Sciences for example biology; formalize of the modalities by means of modern logic.
