The Faculty of Adab and Humanities of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta collaborated with the Association of Lecturers of Humanities (Asosiasi Dosen Ilmu-ilmu Adab/ADIA) in holding this this seminar in August 2018 in Aviary Hotel Bintaro in South Tangerang in the Banten Province, Indonesia. This meeting discussed on different issues related to the contemporary Islam and culture in Southeast Asia and the Middle East

The relationship between the Southeast Asia (SE Asia) with the Middle East (ME) in the Islamic context is an irrefutable historical fact that the Middle East is the centre of Islam: its culture, its history, and its thought. However, this connection creates some challenges, such as the emergence of Islamic phobia, radicalism, Arabization, digital illiteracy, and knowledge mismanagement. Therefore, this international conference aims to profoundly understand nowadays relation between the Southeast Asia and the Middle East, including its relation to the cultures and languages of both regions, in terms of interdisciplinary studies. In tandem to this goal, this collection maps the position of countries within both regions and how those countries interact with as well as influence each other.
