The 2023 5th International Conference on Economic Management and Cultural Industry (ICEMCI 2023) was held during November 17 to 19, 2023, in Beijing, China. ICEMCI 2023 was supported by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia, and Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia.

The ICEMCI is aimed to be an international academic conference for scientists and researchers from the fields of economic management and cultural industry worldwide and has been held as an annual academic event since 2019. Our mission is to foster scientific exchanges and to promote a high-standard level of researches and experiments in China, and even the international community.

The conference proceedings covered a wide range of theoretical and applied topics:

• Labor and Population Economics;
• Information Economy and Management;
• Science and Technology Management;
• Sustainable Development of Cultural Industry, etc.

The conference provided an opportunity for all the participants to share scientific research achievements and cutting-edge technologies, to understand academic development trends, as well as to broaden research ideas. About 150 participants participated in the conference.

The conference was divided into three keynote speeches, many oral talks and still poster presentations. Participants had time at their disposal to present their work and researches, with 30–40 min for keynote speech including time for discussion, and 15 minutes for oral presentation. Prof. Thomas Alexander Stein (Beijing Normal University– Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, China) made a speech on Global Development of Creative Industries as Soft Power Diplomacy in 21st Century: A Model for Sustainable Economic Growth and Stability. In his presentation, a model for sustainable growth of creative industries within countries was presented, which can be used to enhance support for economic development and stability. In addition, some suggestions were offered for how countries can cooperate in building such models to be used in soft power diplomacy and improved trade relations between partner countries and regions. The participants actively interacted with each other and the speakers during discussion time.

Once again, we must admit that organizing the ICEMCI 2023 and finalizing the editing process for the post publications has been quite a challenge. We have worked with passion and enthusiasm.We firmly believe that discussions, interactions and publications of this kind can help improve researches and experiments in related fields, offering creative ideas that can be used by researchers to conduct experiments as well as creating important link between theory and practice.

We would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of ICEMCI 2023, including the Conference Committee, the participants, authors and reviewers. And we gratefully acknowledge the publishing support from Atlantis Press.
