Abstract

Islamic cooperatives play a crucial role in promoting community-based economic development and achieving equitable prosperity, in line with Islamic principles. However, many Islamic cooperatives in Indonesia still face challenges in governance, member participation, and managerial professionalism. This study examines the influence of Islamic social capital on the performance of Islamic cooperatives, with Islamic human capital acting as a mediating variable. Using an explanatory quantitative design, data were analyzed using the Generalized Structured Component Analysis (GeSCA) technique, involving 58 active Islamic cooperatives in Jombang Regency. The results indicate that Islamic social capital has a positive influence on Islamic human capital and cooperative performance. Islamic human capital also significantly enhances performance and partially mediates the relationship between these two variables. These findings emphasize that the success of Islamic cooperatives depends not only on economic capital but also on strong Islamic social relations and the quality of ethical, competent, and innovative human resources. The integration of Islamic social capital and human capital provides a vital foundation for sustainable and equitable performance in Islamic cooperatives. This study contributes to the enrichment of Islamic economics and management literature by combining Social Capital Theory and Resource-Based View (RBV), which underscores the strategic importance of Islamic moral and relational resources in driving institutional sustainability.
