- Abstract
Doplang Village in Semarang Regency holds significant potential through its tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa) cultivation, which has long been limited to low-value ornamental use. Despite this unique resource, no existing studies have explored how tuberose can serve as the basis for an iconic rural tourism model, nor how a multi-year empowerment approach can shape destination development in a community setting. This study aims to address this gap by analyzing the formation of Doplang’s tuberose-based tourism model developed through a three-year community empowerment program (2023–2025). A longitudinal qualitative design was employed, drawing on field observations, program documentation, stakeholder interviews, and policy analysis of the village’s Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMDes 2019–2025). Findings reveal three critical drivers of model development: (1) institutional consolidation involving Pokdarwis, BumDes, MSMEs, PKK, and youth groups; (2) the construction of a distinctive village identity through tuberose-centered branding, cultural events, and the tourism booklet Jendela Doplang; and (3) diversification of the visitor economy by integrating flower-based attractions with creative industry products and experiential activities. These outcomes demonstrate that the synergy between local potential, community participation, and policy alignment can generate a resilient and competitive rural tourism model. The study offers both practical implications for community-based destination development and theoretical contributions to rural tourism transformation, with strong potential for replication in similar contexts.
