- Abstract
This research aims to analyze the impact of assistive technology (AT) use on the academic performance of deaf and hard-of-hearing university students. Hearing disabilities can pose significant challenges in the learning process, and AT offers potential solutions to overcome communication barriers and access to information. This study employs a systematic literature review approach, analyzing 20 relevant up-to-date research articles. The analysis results indicate that the use of various types of AT, such as real-time transcription, captioning, hearing devices, and specialized software, is significantly and positively correlated with increased participation, material comprehension, and learning outcomes of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of integrating AT into higher education environments to create an inclusive learning environment that supports the academic success of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Further research is needed to explore the effectiveness of various AT types in different disciplinary contexts and to identify factors influencing the adoption and use of AT by students.
