- Abstract
The principal, as the primary leader in educational institutions, plays a crucial role in determining the quality of learning and shaping an academic culture oriented toward excellence. This study aims to explore how the principal of SMAN 2 Makassar implements instructional leadership across five key dimensions: (1) defining vision and goals, (2) building communication, (3) promoting teacher professional development, (4) creating a safe and supportive learning environment, and (5) managing resources effectively. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that principal leadership, when integrated with transformational leadership principles, fosters the development of an academic culture characterized by enhanced teacher professionalism, a conducive learning climate, active participation of school stakeholders, and a strong orientation toward quality and achievement. The study implies that principals should integrate instructional and transformational leadership practices to strengthen quality culture and improve school competitiveness.
