Abstract

This study aims to examine teachers’ perceptions of the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at the elementary school level in Bulupoddo District, Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, involving six teachers from three elementary schools that have implemented the Independent Curriculum. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that teachers have a positive basic understanding of the principles of the Independent Curriculum, such as differentiated learning and character building through the Pancasila Student Profile. However, there are limitations in independently developing teaching materials, implementing project-based learning, and implementing formative assessment. This study confirms the gap between the national curriculum design and its implementation in underdeveloped areas. The implications of this study indicate the need for systematic and contextual teacher mentoring so that the Independent Curriculum can be effectively implemented throughout Indonesia.
