Abstract

The research is aimed to gain information about the students’ perception of using local wisdom in teaching Extensive Reading on Fiction. The subject of the research was third semester students of English Language Education Study Program of STKIP PGRI Trenggalek who joined Extensive Reading on Fiction class. The perception was known after local wisdom was used as material in class. By using local wisdom story, the students were assigned to analyze it from several aspects such as point of view, characters, characters’ attributes and the role of character to set story. Qualitative research was used as design of the research. To take data, the researchers delivered questionnaire to know the students’ perception of using local wisdom story in learning Extensive Reading on Fiction.. The questionnaire consisted of two indicators, related with the students’ interest in learning reading and the use local wisdom story as material in Extensive Reading on Fiction class. The questionnaire result showed that good and positive perception about the use of local wisdom story were given by the students. The whole of questionnaire result indicated that the use of local wisdom story assisted and motivated the students in learning Extensive Reading on Fiction class. In conclusion, local wisdom story is good material in learning reading.
