The 4th International Conference on Literature, Art and Human Development (ICLAHD 2022) was successfully held on October 28–30, 2022, in Xi’an, China (virtual conference). ICLAHD 2022 brought together academics and experts in the field of Literature, Art and Human Development research to a common forum, promoting research and developmental activities in related fields as well as scientific information interchange between researchers, developers, and engineers working all around the world.

We were honored to have Assoc. Prof. Chew Fong Peng from University of Malaya, Malaysia, to serve as our Conference Chair. The conference covered keynote speeches, oral presentations, and online Q&A discussion, attracting over 300 individuals. Firstly, keynote speakers were each allocated 30–45 min to hold their speeches. Then in the oral presentations, the excellent papers selected were presented by their authors in sequence.

During the conference, four sophisticated professors were invited to make keynote speeches. Among them, Assoc. Prof. Chew Fong Peng, our Conference Chair, delivered a speech on Suitability of Literary Component Texts in the Malay Language at the Malaysian National Secondary Schools. The literary component in Malay was first introduced in all national secondary schools in Malaysia in 2000. In this speech, she analyzed the suitability of the selected novel texts for Forms I to Form V of the current syllabus based on zones and discussed the literary anthologies from Form I to Form V. Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Wang Lin from Northwestern Polytechnical University, China, gave a report on The Friction and Conflict Between Film Art and Politics–The Path of Film Development in the GDR (1946–1990). She showed us the film development in the GDR. While the film market of West Germany had gradually become the dump object of the Western countries such as the USA, East German filmmaker still held the ground of their own film industry in spite of the secession and the affects from the state’s policy. Seen from both the antifascist-themed films in early stage and the realism-themed films in later stage, the development of East German films marks the era. Their excellent presentations had sparked heated discussion in the conference. Moreover, every participant praised this conference for disseminating insightful knowledge.

After months of well preparation and hard work, the proceedings of ICLAHD 2022 covering a bunch of papers are smoothly published. These papers feature but are not limited to the following topics: Literature and English Teaching, Chinese Literary Translation, Drama and Film Studies, Health Education, etc. All the papers have been checked through rigorous review and processes to meet the requirements of publication.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the keynote speakers, peer reviewers, and all the participants. Particularly, we would like to acknowledge the Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, for the endeavor of all its colleagues in publishing this paper volume. We are sure that ICLAHD 2022 will contribute to not only scientific and engineering progress but also other new products and processes.
